Daniel Linton-France

The versatile conductor and pianist Daniel Linton-France from Sydney, Australia completed his studies at the University, „Mozarteum“ in Salzburg, Austria, where he studied Piano with Prof. Christoph Lieske and conducting with Dennis Russell Davies and Jorge Rotter. 

Before taking up engagements as a conductor, coach and head of musical studies at the „Nordharzer Städtebundtheater“, the „Staatstheater Braunschweig“ in Germany and more recently at the „Landestheater Linz“ in Austria he was invited to work as a musical assistant to Gustav Kuhn at the „Tyrol Festival, Erl„. During his various engagements he conducted over 40 works of music theatre such as:  

“The Mastersingers of Nuremberg” and “The Valkyries” by Richard Wagner, “La Bohème”, “Madama Butterfly” and ”Tosca” by Giacomo Puccini, “The Cunning Little Vixen” by Leos Janacek, ”Carmen” by George Bizet, 

“The Magic Flute” and the „da Ponte“ Operas by W.A. Mozart, operettas by Franz Lehàr and Emmerich Kálmán as well contemporary works such as William Bolcom´s “McTeague” or „Solaris“ by Michael Obst.


As a performing artist and assistant he has worked at various festivals including the “Bayreuth Festival” (“Der Ring des Nibelungen” Conductor: Krill Petrenko in 2015) the “Salzburg Festival” ( “Die Entführung aus dem Serail”. Conductor: Hans Graf 2013), the “Tyrol Festival, Erl”, the “Carinthian Summer” in Austria, “Festival Cultural de Mayo” in Mexico, ”Festival Snow and Symphony” in Switzerland and at various opera houses such as the “Teatro San Carlo” Naples, “Teatro Verdi” in Florence and “Teatro Verdi” in Trieste.

Orchestras with which he has worked include the Bruckner Orchestra Linz (AT), the Lucern Symphony Orchestra (CH), the Orchestra of the Tyrol Festival Erl (AT), the Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini (IT), the Haydn Orchestra, Bozen (IT) the Orchestra of the Nordharzer Städtebundtheater (DE), the Daegu Opera Festival Orchestra (Korea), the Noura Juku Ensemble (Japan) „The Johann Strauß Ensemble“ (AT) and the Ensemble Risognanze (IT).


As a pianist he is a much sought after chamber music partner and vocal accompanist performing on a regular basis.


To round off his musical versatility he has composed and performed many of his own works including pieces for solo instruments, chamber music, music -theatre pieces and choral works. His paraphrase on Franz Schubert´s „Du bist die Ruh“ for flute and piano received a prize at the competition „Schubert und die Musik der Moderne“ in Graz, 2003 and is published by Kossack Editions. 


At the Daegu Opera Festival 2016 in Korea Mei Hong Lin`s production of Gluck´s „Orfeo ed Euridice“ was awarded best performance under his musical direction with the Daegu Opera Festival Orchestra and singers from the Landestheater Linz.

He is founder and artistic director of the concert series “Living Room Artists” in the “New Music Theatre, Linz”. A series dedicated to bringing composers, writers, creators, interpreters and audiences closer together. 


In 2010 he was invited as a guest lecturer for orchestra conducting and coaching to the Newcastle Conservatorium (Australia).

He also works regularly as a conductor of the student orchestra of the Bruckner University, Linz.


Since October 2018 he holds the position of „Studienleiter“ at the Institute of Vocal Studies and Music Theatre at the „University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna“.
